EVERGOODS Transit Packing Cube 10L Review

We typically love EVERGOODS’ bags and gear for their rugged, durable, and heavy materials. While that makes their bags last longer, is that really necessary for a packing cube, or will we be looking for something lighter after lugging the Transit Packing Cube 10L around for a few weeks? Let’s dive in and find out.

External Components

The packing cube is crafted from 210D Nylon 6.6, which is highly durable but relatively lightweight. It isn’t ultralight, like other packing cubes we’ve tested, but the difference will be negligible for most users. These are some of the most durable packing cubes we’ve tested, which we think is a solid trade-off. If you aren’t counting milligrams, you’ll be just fine.

At the time of writing, the cubes come in Black, Hot Orange, and Standard Grey colorways. We dig all three, and you can get the one that best matches your vibes.

The zippers are from YKK, which, in our experience, is the best zipper brand around. There are two zipper tracks—one features zipper heads with fabric pulls, and the other just has metal tabs. These are a little louder, but only marginally so.

Loops on either end of the main compartment zipper track help you open and close the cube, which we found handy. You can also use these loops to secure the cube inside your pack.

The packing cube has handles on opposite sides, making it easy to carry from one place to another without a backpack. You can also leave the cube open and move it from the bed to the dresser or the bathroom to get ready. The handles stay out of the way when you aren’t using them, which is a solid feature.

The EVERGOODS logo is on the bottom right of the front of the cube. If you aren’t familiar with it, the logo is a hook-and-loop fastener with a diagonal line running through it. We dig the look and the ability to add a patch here, but understand that it isn’t the vibe every traveler wants. If you have two cubes, you can label them with different patches to tell them apart. Or, go with different colorways!

Inside The Packing Cube

This packing cube has a secondary compartment, which isn’t common for most brands. We dig this, as you can stow extra gear here. Additionally, it’s not a bad place to stow sensitive items, as it’s out of view and not a common place for thieves to look. This pocket takes up most of the cube’s front face, so you can stow fairly large items here, as long as they don’t have much depth. If you’re bringing one cube’s worth of clothing, you could stow an additional empty cube here to transfer dirty clothing to, so you keep your travel backpack organized.

The main compartment is pretty standard apart from one added feature. It has a collar, which extends around the cube’s interior to hold your clothing in place while you close the zipper. This lets you load more inside without worrying about items rolling out or getting caught in the zipper before closing. Additionally, this collar has strong draw-style handles, so you can cinch the collar tight to ensure that your clothing doesn’t sneak out. This feature adds weight, but we dig its inclusion, as it makes adding extra clothing easier and protects your stuff, too. Nobody wants to spend extra on a Merino wool shirt just to catch it in zipper teeth!

The rest of the packing cube is pretty standard—there is no internal organization or special tricks here. The tenacity of the materials and durability of the zipper allow you to load a ton of gear without worrying about anything busting or breaking.

At 10 liters, you can fit a weekend’s worth of clothing here, or a week’s worth if you pack light or are traveling somewhere warm. We’d recommend two for longer trips, so long as they fit inside your travel backpack. If you prefer a larger and a smaller packing cube, you’re out of luck, as the cubes only come in 8 and 10-liter sizes at the time of writing!

In terms of price, you’re paying for high-quality materials, per usual with EVERGOODS. In contrast, you could get the entire Ultralight Packing Cube Set from Osprey, one of our highest-rated and most recommended packing cubes, for $10 less than the EVERGOODS Transit Packing Cube 10L at the time of writing. And that set includes three cubes. We love the durable materials, but we’ve been using the Osprey cubes for years without issue, so is it worth it? That’s for you to decide!
