We’ve tested a lot of totes over the years—from minimalist to overbuilt, some designed for the gym and others for farmers’ markets. The Orbitkey Daily Tote 16L aims for the crowded middle: to be a clean, everyday carry solution with just enough structure and organization to feel intentional without becoming overly complex—the kind you’d take almost anywhere.

Orbitkey is best known for key organizers and desk accessories, so stepping into bags—especially totes—feels like a natural extension of their design philosophy. The Daily Tote comes in both 16L and 21L versions, and for daily carry, commuting, and light travel, the smaller 16L size feels thoughtfully dialed in. It’s compact enough to stay manageable while still accommodating a laptop, water bottle, and everyday essentials, making it a compelling option for those who want a refined, modern tote that can flex between work, errands, and travel.
External Components
The exterior of the Orbitkey Daily Tote 16L keeps things intentionally minimal. The bag is constructed from recycled polyester, which feels durable and structured enough to hold its shape when packed. There’s a stiffness to the material that allows the tote to stand upright on its own, which we always appreciate when setting a bag down in a café or next to a desk. Durability hasn’t been a concern in testing, though the fabric tends to attract lint, dust, and pet hair easily. If you live with pets or frequently set your bag down on fabric-covered surfaces (like public bus seats), this is something you’ll likely notice—but it’s also easy to clean up with a lint roller.

Orbitkey highlights the front key attachment as a signature feature, using its proprietary carabiner-style system. While it’s a clever nod to their core product line, we didn’t find ourselves using it as a permanent key storage solution. Keys tend to dangle a bit lower than we’d prefer, and while they don’t hit the ground, the setup feels more situational than essential. That said, the attachment point is removable and can be used with other carabiners or accessories, making it a versatile external loop for clipping on small gear if that’s your style. If you ignore it altogether, it blends into the design cleanly and doesn’t feel intrusive.

Beyond that, external storage is limited but purposeful. A slim magnetic slip pocket on the front is designed for quick-access items like a phone or wallet. The magnet feels strong and secure, even when you slightly overfill the pocket, though the pocket itself is intentionally flat. This keeps the bag looking sleek, but it also means stuffing bulky items here can create visible lumps. Around the back, the tote includes a luggage pass-through that doubles as a discreet zippered pocket. This hidden pocket runs across most of the bag’s width and works well for valuables like a passport, wallet, or phone—especially when traveling.

The carry system is straightforward and comfortable. The tote handles are made from nylon webbing with a subtle amount of internal padding. While they don’t feel plush, there’s enough cushioning to prevent discomfort, even when the bag is fully loaded—not to mention that padded tote handles are relatively rare based on our experience. The handles are flexible and sit well on the shoulder, and when layered together, they create a wider contact area that improves comfort during longer carries. Orbitkey also offers an optional crossbody strap as an add-on. It’s well-padded and sturdy, with stitched-in padding that requires some adjustment to get just right. While it’s comfortable and functional, we don’t see it as a must-have right away—especially at an added cost—though it’s nice to have the option if your carry needs change.
Fit Notes

On the body, the Orbitkey Daily Tote 16L carries comfortably in both tote and crossbody modes. Using the standard handles, the bag sits naturally on one shoulder without feeling overly bulky or awkward. Even when packed to capacity, the weight distribution feels balanced, and the lightly padded handles prevent pressure points from forming. We did notice that the handles can occasionally slip off the shoulder if not positioned carefully, but once adjusted, they tend to stay put without requiring constant readjustment.

With the optional crossbody strap attached, the tote takes on a slightly more utilitarian feel. The strap padding does a good job of managing weight, even when the bag is fully loaded with a laptop and accessories. While you can feel the weight, it never becomes uncomfortable or distracting. The strap’s padding is stitched in place, so dialing in the perfect fit takes a bit of trial and error, but once set, it stays consistent. Overall, the tote adapts well to different carry styles, making it versatile for commuting, errands, or light travel days when you want to keep your hands free.
Inside The Tote
Inside, the Orbitkey Daily Tote 16L balances structure and flexibility well. You access the main compartment through a unique zipper setup that allows the top to open widely, without collapsing into a triangular shape. This design preserves vertical packing space while still offering some protection from the elements. While there are small gaps near the zipper ends, we never felt like our gear was at risk of falling out during normal use—though it’s something to keep in mind if you frequently set the bag on its side.

A dedicated laptop compartment is located along the back wall, accessible via its own zippered opening. It comfortably fits a 13-inch MacBook Pro and features a padded, mesh-lined interior that provides decent protection. While it doesn’t have a pronounced false bottom, there’s enough cushioning at the base to keep the laptop from directly contacting the ground. Combined with the structured bottom panel, the laptop compartment feels secure for everyday commuting, as long as you’re not dropping the bag from significant heights.

The main compartment is largely open, giving the tote its flexible packing style. Along one side, there’s an internal water bottle pocket that securely holds an 18-ounce bottle, even with a taller lid. Opposite that, you’ll find a zippered organization pocket with dual zippers. This pocket is stitched in the middle, so you’ll want to keep the zippers centered for easiest access. It works well for smaller items like headphones, battery banks, and cables, offering quick access without digging through the main cavity.

The rest of the space is open for packing as you see fit. Orbitkey offers modular inserts and pouches specifically designed for this tote, aptly named the Essentials Bag Insert and the Essentials Pouch Trio. While these accessories are thoughtfully designed and integrate nicely, we don’t see them as necessary for most users. The tote functions perfectly well with your existing pouches and organizers, and that flexibility is part of its appeal. If you do opt for an add-on, the insert is the most useful, allowing you to pack and unpack your essentials quickly while adding a bit of internal organization.
