We’ve been testing the NITECORE Carbo 10000 Gen2 every day for about two weeks now, and it feels like a classic NITECORE update: familiar at first glance, but with a handful of meaningful improvements that make it more competitive in today’s power bank landscape.
NITECORE is one of those brands that refreshes its battery banks constantly, sometimes with changes so minor you’d be forgiven for not noticing—a slightly different port layout here, a somewhat better rating there. So the big question is: is the Carbo 10000 Gen2 just another minor convenience upgrade, or is it the version that makes people actually want to jump ship from the original?
The Rundown
The Carbo 10000 Gen2 keeps the signature carbon fiber shell that we’ve come to expect from NITECORE. It’s lightweight, rugged, and has that technical, outdoorsy aesthetic that looks right at home in a hiking kit or tech pouch. The carbon fiber also does a great job resisting scuffs, and overall durability feels excellent.

One of the more noticeable changes is the addition of external magnesium alloy heat sinks. These are designed to help dissipate heat during fast charging, and in practice, they give the power bank a slightly louder, more industrial look than we’re used to from NITECORE. Functionally, though, it’s a smart upgrade—especially now that the Gen2 supports higher charging speeds.
Waterproofing has also improved. The Gen2 carries an IPX8 rating, meaning it can survive full submersion. We wouldn’t recommend tossing your battery bank into a river. Still, it’s reassuring if you’re traveling in wet climates, hiking in the rain, or dealing with the occasional spill in a café.

Port selection is one of the most critical upgrades here. Instead of the older USB-A/USB-C combo, the Gen2 has two USB-C ports, which feel much more modern. One port supports input and output, while the second is output-only. It supports pass-through charging, and you can charge two at once, though charging speeds will slow when split.
Maximum output hits 30 watts, which is a solid jump over the previous generation and enough to fast-charge phones, handle tablets, and even top up smaller laptops in a pinch. With pass-through charging, you can recharge the bank while powering another device simultaneously.

Battery indicators are kept simple, with four LEDs showing remaining charge. It’s self-explanatory, easy to read, and, honestly, preferable to the power-hungry screens some competitors are adding, as it is less prone to failing.
As for capacity, this is a 10,000 mAh bank, but, as always, you won’t actually get the full advertised number in real-world usage. Rated energy is a better metric, and NITECORE lists it at 7,000 mAh.

We tested it using the same electronic USB load tester setup we use for our Battery Bank Guide, drawing power until the bank shut off. We pulled 6,994 mAh, which is extremely close to the rated capacity. You won’t get the full 10,000 mAh, but getting the full advertised usable capacity is a strong performance.
The only real downside here is price. At $119.95 at the time of review, this is expensive for a 10,000mAh power bank, especially when there are plenty of cheaper options with similar raw capacity. That said, most of those alternatives don’t match the Carbo’s durability, waterproofing, or weight-to-power ratio.
Packability
The Carbo 10000 Gen2 is impressively packable. It’s long, skinny, and not overly thick, making it easy to slide into pockets—especially the deeper pockets on travel pants.

It fits nicely in a tech pouch, a daypack admin panel, or most slings without issue. In tiny slings, it may take up a bit more space due to its length, but it’s still easy to carry compared to bulkier competitors.

Overall, it’s just as travel-friendly as the first generation. The form factor remains one of the Carbo line’s biggest strengths: it feels small enough to bring anywhere without a second thought.
Quick Comparison
The most obvious comparison is the original NITECORE Carbo 10000 Power Bank, and the two are incredibly similar in spirit.

Dimensionally:
- V1: 4.88 x 2.32 x 0.45 in (12.4 x 5.9 x 1.1 cm)
- V2: 4.98 x 1.89 x 0.62 in (12.6 x 4.8 x 1.6 cm)
That works out to:
- V1 volume: 5.09472 cubic inches
- V2 volume: 5.835564 cubic inches
So the Gen2 is slightly larger overall—longer, slimmer, and thicker.
However, the performance upgrades are meaningful. The Gen2 supports 30W input and output, while the original maxed out at 18W input and 20W output, mainly due to the port change. Moving to dual USB-C is a significant improvement for modern travel setups.

Weight increases only slightly:
- V1: 157g
- V2: 170g
Capacity performance also improves:
- V1 tested: 6,199mAh
- V2 tested: 6,994mAh
Waterproofing jumps significantly:
- V1: IPX5
- V2: IPX8 (submersible)
In the end, the Carbo 10000 Gen2 feels like the same power bank concept with refinements. If you already own the original, upgrading isn’t absolutely imperative unless you want faster charging, better water resistance, and USB-C-only convenience.
But if you’re buying into the Carbo line for the first time, the Gen2 is the better pick—more modern, more capable, and still one of the most durable and packable premium 10,000mAh options available.
Usage Timeline
Condition: Excellent
- The carbon fiber has held up well
- No issues with any of the less-durable plastic materials, either
- The rounded corners are a nice touch
